Easy easy run.

I was really hurting after Tuesday's run. It turned out that it was my left hip and left knee. I felt a little something in the knee last week, but I had been ignoring it. I rested on Wednesday and Thursday if you can call working overtime resting. I decided giving running a try this morning. I don't want to get into a habit of not running. I felt okay, if a little stiff. There's still some weakness in the knee and hip, but I was okay today.

Last night's big thunderstorm cooled things off a bit, which was nice.

I felt okay running this morning, but I can tell that things are just a bit out of whack. I'm not sure what to do about it. I think I'll just stick with the easy running for a little while longer.

I'm off to Rocky Mountain National Park today with a couple of my boys and my brother and his family. It's a different brother from the one that came in May to play the oboe. This one brought my mom here for my daughtAer's baptism. They're heading back to Utah tomorrow.

It's back to work for me tomorrow, or actually tonight, I'm afraid.

Easy run + Shred level 1.

It was good to get out for a run in the nice cool weather this morning. I think we're back to heat tomorrow.

I saw a rabbit taking off down the road this morning and then I realized why when I saw the neighborhood fox just a little ways away. The fox wasn't chasing the rabbit though. The fox kind of looked at me and then wandered away.

I decided I need to get back into doing the Shred two or three times/week. I've been neglecting strength training for several months now and that probably accounts to some extent for my little aches and pains. Also, I tried to focus on keeping my pelvis level rather than tipped forward during my run this morning. I think that will help the alignment of my hips and knees.

Yesterday's cool weather stretched into this morning, but it's supposedly going to warm up this afternoon. It was quite humid this morning. Whenever I stopped to wait for a light, my glasses got all fogged up.

I ran the County Line Road route and pushed the pace a little. The hills and the distance and the pace may have been a little too much for my hip. It's a little sore now, but I think I'll be okay.

I didn't really try to run one portion faster than the rest, but I ended up with one mile below my arbitrary designation for fast miles.

I'm sure that a good portion of my soreness yesterday was from doing the Shred on Wednesday for the first time in many months. Nevertheless, I skipped the run today and did the Shred level 1 again. I'll run tomorrow. I figure I've got to keep doing the Shred and pretty soon it won't make me sore anymore. Also, I've got to try to get to work early today.

I ran on the Highline Canal Trail this morning with Carly. It's been a long time since I've run with anyone. It was nice to run and talk with her. It made the run go by quickly. I kept the mileage short to keep my hip happy. It was a little stiff after the run, but not too bad. It's strange to be all finished with my run before 8:30 on a Saturday morning.

I found out on Saturday that a woman named Lindsay, who just moved into my ward, runs some. Actually, she called it jogging, but maybe that's because she usually pushes a jogging stroller when she runs. I tried to find out her typical pace from her but she would only time me that she usually ran for a half hour or 45 minutes, but wouldn't say her distance or pace. I offered to meet up with her for a run this morning, but I didn't know what I was in for. Her house is about a mile away from mine, but I ran 1.9 miles to get there. I hit the lap button at that point because I wanted to track my pace with her separately from my pace alone. She started out a little faster than I expected, but then we slowed down. We ran through neighborhoods and through Cheese Ranch Park, which is not my usual route. We crossed paths with Michelle in Cheese Ranch Park, so that was nice. It was good to see Michelle out running.

We got back to Linday's house and had been gone for a little less than a half hour, and she wanted to run a little more, so she ran with me almost all the way to my house (taking the one mile route) and then we parted ways and I ran the rest of the way home, about .2 miles, by myself. I didn't hit the lap button for that.

It's exciting to get another runner in the area. Maybe we can get our Saturday morning group going again.

6:20 am, 70° F, 33% humidity, wind 12 S, sunny.

I know a lot of you run in hotter temperatures and much more humidity, but this felt quite warm to me this morning. I got really sweaty.

My current thinking is that I'll do easy runs on M, W, and F, and then push either the pace or the distance on Tuesday and Thursday. I don't have a lot of this this morning (still busy at work) so I decided to push the pace instead of the distance. I kept a relatively steady effort the whole time, but some miles were faster than others based on the terrain. So a couple of the miles landed below my 8:30 fast mile designation. They were downhill miles.

I haven't been keeping up on blogs very well. I apologize. This working hard all day is doing me in.

Easy run + level 1 shred.

My plan this morning was to run 3 miles to where Michelle starts her run and time it so that I got there a little after she did and then catch up with her and run with her for a while. But I got out the door a few minutes later than I had intended, and so I couldn't see her when I got to that point. I kept running at an easy pace until I went around a corner and then I could see someone that I thought was her quite a ways ahead. So I picked up the pace quite a bit until I caught up with her. Then I ran with her for a little over a mile and then we parted ways and I headed home. It was nice to visit with Michelle. I haven't done that in a long time.

I figure that my fast portion qualified as fast miles, but I'm not sure because my Garmin died about 3 minutes into my run. I must have left it on accidentally yesterday or something. I estimated my total distance and the distance that I ran fast using mapmyrun.com. I know roughly how long (in terms of time) I ran, but not precisely. But based on my rough estimates of time and distance, I think my average pace was about 9:35.

Instead of trying to chase Michelle from behind, I ran towards her and met up with her, which she wasn't expecting. A few minutes later, her neighbor Michelle caught up with us, so the three of us ran together for a little while, and then I split off from them.

I ran recovery pace today. I'm not sure why. I guess I'm recovering from my hard day off from running yesterday. I guess my low mileage lately is a compromise between high mileage and quitting all together.

Easy run.

I've decided that I have to arrange to meet someone for a run on Saturday mornings because otherwise I will sleep in until it's so hot that I can't bring myself to go for a run. So I arranged to meet Michelle #2 at the Highline Canal Trail at 7:00 this morning. She was thinking of 4-6 miles and I was thinking of 6-8, so we compromised and ran 6. I don't know her as well as I know some of the other people I run with, but it was nice to visit with her. She wants to start meeting at the trail regularly on Saturday mornings again, so I guess I'll do that. Maybe I can recruit some other people to come too.

There was a huge crowd of Team in Training people there today. (So now look for an add for Team in Training on this page since I've mentioned them.) I noticed that most of them were women. We joked about eating their unattended Power Bars when we got back to the start, but didn't do it.

Once again, I'm done with my run early on a Saturday morning. I guess that's what happens when I only run 6 miles.

Maybe I'll try to increase my mileage just a little bit next week. We'll see how things go at work. I'm still working long hours.

Maybe we'll be able to get the Saturday morning group going.

I had a big argument with myself this morning about whether to go for a run. I told my husband that I was going to skip the run and just go to work, but then I decided that I should take advantage of the cooler temps and clouds. I didn't really take the humidity into account. I got good and sweaty.

My splits are somewhat deceiving since the first half of the run was generally uphill and the second half was generally downhill, but I was really pushing it by the end.

I had that same argument about whether to run again this morning. Bolstering the argument against was the fact that I stayed in bed too long and so I was short on time. But I finally decided that three miles was better than nothing, so I headed out. Also too, I haven't run 6 days in a week since the end of May and I kind of thought I would try to do it this week. If I skipped today's run, I would have blown it again.

I finally ran an almost respectable Saturday distance. If it had been one more mile I could have called it medium-long. And I finally ran 6 days in a week for the first time since the end of May. Maybe I'm starting to come back.

I ran 6 miles with Michelle #2 on the Highline Canal Trail and then did 4 more by myself. I had a little break in between to get my fuel belt and my mp3 player out of my car. It was almost a progression run, even the part with Michelle. I passed a lot of people in the last couple of miles.

It looks like I'm going start running with Lindsay on Fridays instead of Mondays. I'm not sure what will happen once school starts because I may need to go earlier then.

I figure I'll stick with level 1 of the Shred this week and move up to level 2 next week. I like to do each level for approximately a month before moving on to the next level.

I'm calling this a General Aerobic (GA) run because it was 8 miles. I can't quite bring myself to call 8 miles easy. In my mind, the difference between an easy run and a GA run is that the GA run is a little longer and/or a little faster. I think that about 6 miles is my limit for an easy run.

I ran the MacArthur Ranch Road loop today, which I haven't done in quite a while. There were some nice sprinklers along MacArthur Ranch Road and I didn't even have to go out of my way to run through them.

I saw Barbie near the end of my run. I was behind her, so I tried to be sneaky and take a picture of her with my cell phone, but it didn't work out. I'm not very good with my cell phone camera. I couldn't really see what I was doing and I ended up just taking pictures of the ground. Also, my camera was set to make a shutter noise, and so I couldn't get too close. I have since turned off the shutter sound, so if I get another opportunity to take a picture of her, I will try again.

I woke up at 5:20 this morning and wondered why my alarm hadn't gone off at 5:15. It turned out that it was because my alarm was set for 6:30 (because I slept in yesterday), so I reset it for 5:30 and went back to sleep, then hit the snooze alarm at 5:30 and got up at about 5:40. Still, I managed to make it out the door in time to take the 2-mile route and be at Lindsay's house at 6:15. I ran 3 1/2 miles with Lindsay, and then the rest by myself.

I was lazy and didn't run yesterday. Thursdays are my most frequently skipped day lately. I think it's because my plan is to run longer on Thursdays and that intimidates me, and so I don't run at all. Maybe I need to give myself permission to do shorter runs on Thursdays so that I don't scare myself.

I ran slowly this morning. Part of the reason was that I run slower when I'm with Lindsay, but I was pretty slow when I was by myself too. I think I'm slowing down because I've been eating very poorly and I've gained some weight.

Medium-long run.

8:30 am, 66-80° F, 70% humidity, winds calm.

So this is what happens when I can't get anyone to run with me on a Saturday. I slept late and them dawdled for a long time. It would have been better if I had started the run significantly earlier. It got pretty hot by the time I was finished.

When I first started, there was a girl just ahead of me walking and so I passed her, but then she started running so she passed me and quickly got about 80-100 yards ahead of me. After a bit I noticed that she wasn't getting any farther ahead of me. I guess she passed me right at the first because I always start out really slowly. But then I got going and after I while I realized that I was gaining on her very slowly. I think once I got close enough that she could hear me, she sped up a little bit. I finally caught her at about 2.8 miles and talked with her. She asked if I was training for a marathon and I said that I ran one in June and I'm just trying to maintain base mileage now. She said that made her feel better. I guess she meant that if she had to be passed by an old lady, at least it was an old lady who has run a marathon. Anyway, she was doing 6 miles, so she turned around at the 3 mile marker and I was on my own the rest of the time.

A little while later a guy who was going the other direction asked me what I was training for and I said, "Nothing." I don't know if that sounded rude, but I didn't have time to explain.

I was thinking about work/life, or more specifically work/running balance while I was running. A few months ago I was putting a lot of energy into running and my work was suffering. Now I'm putting a lot more energy into my work and there's not as much left for running. Maybe that's why I'm struggling.
