Thanks to Lindsay, I managed to get out and run for the second time this week. If I hadn't been meeting her on Monday and Friday, I might not have managed to run at all this week. I've been working 12-14 hour days all week and I'm really not managing to do anything else. I'm afraid that work is not going to slow down any time soon.

I had a project at work that I needed to have finished by Tuesday (tomorrow) morning, so I worked 11 straight hours on Saturday to finish it so that I wouldn't have to work today. Because of that, I didn't run on Saturday. But I did run this morning. I was able to go an hour later than usual on account of the holiday. I met up with Lindsay and we ran 4 miles together, and then I did the rest by myself. Unfortunately, my Garmin died mid-run, so I don't have stats other than an estimated total time and an estimated total distance, thus an estimated average pace, which I figure to be 9:17.

We took all our kids up to Greeley today to see older brother's dorm room and campus. It was a nice trip. Now we're home and tired. We took a long walk around campus and my left knee was really hurting by the end, so I'll have to see whether I feel like running on it (or running at all) tomorrow.

I worked about11 hours on Tuesday, but only 8 hours yesterday, so I decided to try to run this morning. I need to get myself back up to running more days of the week. In order to do that, I'm going with really low mileage at least some days. Hence, the 3 miles today. I just got to get back in the habit of getting out the door. Also, my knee felt a little funky. It didn't hurt exactly, but I could feel it. Actually, it's just below the knee on the outside. In any case, short mileage is probably safer for me right now.

Looky here. I ran two days in a row. I hate to admit that it has been quite a while since I've done that. Of course it helps that I have a standing appointment with Lindsay on Friday mornings. I haven't been missing Friday mornings. However, it was mightily difficult to get up this morning. I was up late last night trying to catch up on the laundry.

Progression run.

8:19 am, 54-58° F, 12% humidity, winds calm. That's pretty low humidity, don't you think?

I couldn't get anyone to meet me for a run this morning, so I slept in and then went and ran on the Highline Canal all by myself. I didn't have any plan other than to run 6 or 7 miles. And of course, despite my slacking of late, if I'm ever trying to decide between two distances, I almost always choose the longer distance. Not that 7 is long. Anyway, I just started running and after 2 or 3 miles I realized that I was speeding up and so I decided to turn it into a progression run. My plan from that point on was to not get slower, though I did run the 4th mile one second slower than the 3rd mile. I'll call it a progression run anyway. I really struggled to keep up the pace the last mile and when I stopped I felt like I was going to throw up. It took me a long time to get my breathing back to normal.

The trail was pretty crowded. There were a whole bunch of high school cross country runners on the trail. I did pass a lot of people during the 2nd half of my run.

And hey, I ran three days in a row. I had an easier week at work this week than I did the previous week. I don't know how it will go next week.

I kept my run shorter this morning so that we can try to fit in piano practicing before school. And I'm all about short and easy these days anyway.

I passed a guy in my last mile. I felt sorry for him getting chicked by an old woman who was out for an easy run.

I ran as far as I could and still be home by 6:15. I either have to be home from my run by 6:15, or leave after 6:05 and be home by 7:00. If I'm going to take the first option, I need to start getting up earlier. It was easier to get up early last year (not that it was easy) because my husband was getting up at the same time. But now he doesn't have to get up so early. Another difference is that I'm leaving for work a good hour or hour and a half earlier now than I was last Spring when I was in marathon training. My mornings just aren't what they used to be.

It was dark for my whole run. I had to wear my head lamp for the second time this season. I tried to shine it at a driver who failed to stop behind the white line and just kept rolling. I wasn't sure (s)he was going to stop at all, and if so, where.

I would not have run today if I hadn't been meeting Lindsay. And she probably wishes that I had skipped the run because she was struggling with a kid who wouldn't go back to bed when I got there. So we just ran 3 miles instead of our usual 4 together, but I always run 2 miles more than she does when we run together because it's about a mile from my house to her house and we start and end the part together at her house.

The work has piled up again and I'm looking at long hours for the next few days. Yesterday was a long day at work and I'm afraid today will be too. And I'll probably need to work some tomorrow.

I didn't manage to run this morning because I needed to help my daughter practice the piano before school and I don't have time to do that if I run. So I decided to make the trade complete and I ran during her piano lesson this evening. I ran for 30 minutes and 32 seconds, so it just worked out with her half-hour lesson. I ran from Michelle's house because Michelle is her piano teacher.

I've got to learn to love running again. I've lost that lovin' feeling.

I tried to get out early today so that I could be home in time to drive to seminary. I sometimes try to give my husband a break from seminary driving on Wednesdays because he has rehearsals on Tuesday nights and likes to sleep in on Wednesday mornings.

We left for seminary this morning and then had to turn around and come back because the boy had forgotten to shave. He has precious few hairs on his chinny chin chin, but I guess they bother him and he wanted to get rid of them. He got back in the car smelling strongly of whatever it is he puts on his face.

Another Friday morning run with Lindsay. My kids don't have school today (teachers have a professional development day) and so I had a little more time. I took the 2 mile route to Lindsay's house instead of the one mile route I've been taking lately, but I got out the door 2-3 minutes later than I intended, so I had to run those first 2 miles faster than I normally do.

It's interesting that my miles with Lindsay got progressively slower. When I run by myself I tend to get progressively faster.

I was up late last night watching the Rockies almost make a come back.
