Easy run. Average pace: 10:15.

Weather at 6 am: 24°F, 54% humidity, no wind.

My right hand still hurts a little but is much improved from yesterday. My left knee is a little wonky, but it didn't hurt to run. I was very careful about watching my step whenever I switched between sidewalk and road.

It actually felt a little warmer today than it has the past few days. When the temperature is around the upper 20s, lower 30s, I always struggle to know whether to wear my hoody or not. I wore it Tuesday-Thursday this week and was glad for it. But it turned out to be too much today. But I did manage to take it off while running, which was a neat trick since I had my reflective vest on top of it.

I've got 17 miles scheduled tomorrow. I won't be able to do it early in the morning because I've got to get thing 3 to the solo/ensemble festival at 7:30 am and there's no way I can get 17 miles in before that. I'll have to run afterwards. I'm not used to running at any time other than first thing in the morning, so I'll see if that makes a difference.

I think you should be ok as long as you don't try to do it between 1 PM and 5 PM. Might feel a bit weird though. I did my 20 miler late last week, and I felt fine, though a little disoriented if you know what I mean. Good luck!

The main differences I notice between running in the early morning and later in the day are that 1) I'm not as stiff, so the blood gets moving quicker (good), and 2) my brain is actually on, so I am more aware of what I am doing (good or bad, depending...). So it either equates to good + bad = neutral or good + good = better (all in relation to running early). In any case, by that utterly infallible logic (yeah, we'll go with that...), at the very least there is no net difference in running experiences, and at the best there is a net gain.

Woops, I think the engineer in me just came out....

Be sure and eat enough in the morning to sustain you during the run. I made the mistake a few weeks ago of chilling all morning at home, drinking coffee and eating like, maybe a bagel or something. Then ran long starting at 1:00 pm and bonked hard because I had eaten so little over the last 15 hrs.

I agree with Nevels....I use to run in the early a.m..and would be fine...now that I wait a few hours after I wake I like that I"m not so stiff...I think I run better in midmorning or even in the afternoon...
