Moderate run. Average pace: 9:05.

Weather: 67°F, humidity 42%, wind 2 SSW.

My planned work out for today was 10 miles with the last 8 miles hard, but I didn't have the time or the energy for that. I've got a really busy morning and my stomach is not feeling quite right. Also, I think I left my legs on the ship. I thought the time off from running would make me feel rested, but not so.

About 3/4 of a mile into this run another runner and I approached the same corner from different directions and then both turned to go the same way. She was a ways in front of me, so I decided to see if I could catch her by just picking up the pace a bit, but not sprinting. I think she knew I was behind her and she didn't want to be caught because she looked back a couple of times and she also sped up enough that I couldn't catch her. It would have been nice to catch her and talk to her because maybe she was a potential running partner. In any case, she made a turn about 3/4 of a mile later that wasn't on my route so we parted ways at that point.

I tried to run at least a moderate pace today since my scheduled run was supposed to be hard. But I didn't seem to ever be able to get going very fast. I think part of the problem was that I chased this other runner during my first two miles, which are normally my warm up. Splits were 9:21 (this is the avg pace for the first 2 miles because I didn't have auto lap turned on - the rest of these are mile splits), 8:42, 9:07, 8:56, 9:05, 8:44. I hope I get my legs back by Saturday because I'm planning to run a local 5K.

I am glad you are back and that you had fun! I think you will be feeling better in no time, but it takes a minute!!

I wonder why that lady did not want you to catch her? It is funny that she was looking back like it was a race or something. Maybe you will see her again?

Have a great day!

It's just like the story Bonnie told recently of some woman not wanting to be "caught." Weird! Or maybe people just space out and then they realize they're running slower than they want to when another runner comes up. I kind of "fell asleep" mentally for a while in my marathon Saturday and suddenly the 4:30 pace group was going by and I realized I had been in la-la-land. It was flat there so I really wanted to be running about 9:40. Wake up call.

Good job getting out again today. Your body will thank you for it in a couple of days. Travel always wears me out.

I like it when I see other runners on the road. Even though I'm not competitive I use the presence of another runner as a motivator to run faster, whether I'm chasing or being chased.

I seem to always need recovery time when I get back from vacations were there is alot of travel. It has been quite a few years since I was on a cruise, but if I remember right my legs felt weird for about 3 days... head was kind of dizzy too. Maybe it was just me LOL.

Nice run today... I'm sure you will do great on your race Saturday!

I'll join the chorus in saying that I always feel a bit sluggish after a relatively long rest period from running, but the pep in your step will return in a day or two, and you'll blow through the 5k.

You are getting your running legs back! Just by getting out there and doing it. Hang in there, and your race will go great!

I wonder how many potential running partners I have "chased away" in ways very similar to the one you describe! It seems to happen a lot; we spot each other and then size each other up, then pass each other. We runners are such funny people!

Maybe not as fast as you want but looks like you are quickly getting back into the swing of things. I think you'll get your legs back tomorrow.
