Easy Run + 10 x 8 sec. hill sprints. Average pace: 10:09.

Weather: 62°, 78% humidity, winds calm, partly cloudy. It felt muggy this morning and I sweated profusely on this run.

My easy runs seem to be slowing down lately. I guess that's okay. I was really slow on the first 3 miles this morning (10:35, 10:08, and 10:18). The third mile has a lot of up hill. I sped up a little bit on the next 3 miles (9:46, 9:44, 9:28) and worked on form, specifically heel lift. I actually felt pretty good on the hill sprints (7:28, 6:26, 7:02, 7:10, 7:31, 7:51, 7:08, 7:01, 6:38, 7:00). I maybe could have run the hill sprints a little faster, but I didn't really go all-out on them today. These were the hill sprints that I was supposed to do on Wednesday and didn't. I just moved them to today.

My 17-year-old son went to the movie (500) Days of Summer with me last night. We both really liked it. It's really kind of short on plot, but it was fun, and actually kind of sad. It just went through different days, not in sequential order, of this guy's 500-day relationship with a girl named Summer. I recommend this movie. And it was nice to spend some time with my son. He told me that he sees himself as the guy in the movie. I guess he's struggling to find the girl of his dreams. He recently posted a note on Facebook that was a job description for his girl friend. I don't think he's had any serious applicants.

Way to go match-maker. Speaking of facebook, whoever wants to actually know who I am (if you haven't met me already) find me on facebook. I'm Craig Lloyd from Holladay. I will be your friend. I'm nice people.

Oh Carolyn that is so cute! It takes me back to those days. Time seemed SOOOOO long then. Especially compared to now ;-). What a nice bonding time.

Enjoy your day.

17 yr olds are crazy (like in the good way you'd call a runner crazy). I remember all those feelings ALL too well! It goes away SO quickly, fun to remember them...thanks!

What a GREAT run, I've also noticed that my 'easy' runs are getting a bit slower lately too - maybe its the heat? I'm not sure, but I'm struggling with that as well. Let me know if you come up with any good ideas about it!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Jul 10, 2009 at 14:34:21 from 198.241.217.15

Rachel, I've wondered if it's the heat, but it's usually only around 60-62 in the morning when I run, although it has been more humid than usual. The only other things I can think of are that I'm staying up later than I should on account of summertime, and I'm also not eating so well. Or maybe we're both somehow still recovering from the Ogden Marathon and the shorter races we both ran not long after that marathon.

Whatever it is that is making your easy pace easy, I'm sure its a good thing to listen and just do what your brilliant runner's body says to do. I've been doing some calculations recently from several different on line pace calculators (McMillian, Run Bayou), using several different recent race times and found that my recommended "easy" pace varies wildly! Anywhere from 9:15 t0 10:30! My actual easy pace (when I am supposed to run easy) varies from about 8:45 - 9:45. The only information that I've found helpful is from our group coach, who says you run to easy effort, so you have to get familiar with what easy effort feels like. Clearly this whole thing is trickier than we know.

Haha, funny about your son. My son (19) is also searching for the pefect girl, and she's so perfect he'll never find her! I always just tell him that when he falls for someone it will be a big surprise, and not to fight it.

From JD on Fri, Jul 10, 2009 at 15:55:57 from 64.65.159.206

My "base pace" has slowed down substantially the last few weeks too. Maybe it's a seasonal thing. I keep throwing in a fast mile here and there just to make sure my relative speed hasn't flown the coop.

That's funny about your son. If I could go back in time, I would have put off thinking about girls until I was at least 30 years old! Lol!!

Hey Craig, I can't find a Craig Lloyd from Holladay on Facebook. The closest thing I can find is a Craig Lloyd from Salt Lake City with no profile picture. Is that you?

Gee, I wonder where your son got his wacky sense of humor from.

Be sure and tell him that it's better to have had glove, and lost it, than to never have had glove at all.

From Metcalf Running on Fri, Jul 10, 2009 at 21:22:11 from 97.126.146.56

Ya I can't find a Craig Lloyd from Holliday either and there is a ton of Craig Lloyd's LOL
