Easy run. Average pace: 8:53.

Weather at 7:00 am: 61° F, 54% humidity, wind 6 SSW. It wasn't a huge wind, but I definitely felt it.

I was going to run 6 today and then take tomorrow off, but then I decided I should do a 10 mile run before Saturday's race to try out the new shoes, so I'm going to do that tomorrow. That's why I did only 4 today. But I got going a little faster than I had intended, but I liked it. I know they say you shouldn't run your easy runs too fast because it will compromise your ability to do your hard workouts, but I'm only doing easy runs this week (except for the race on Saturday), so I don't really have any hard workouts to ruin at this point. I figure it doesn't really hurt that I went a little faster today. Splits were 9:30, 8:56, 8:32, 8:34. Also, I overslept today, so I needed to hurry home.

Nice run today... good to see that you are not having any more calf issues. Pretty speedy for an easy run.

From auntieem on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 12:00:35 from 67.182.145.8

Way to rationalize going faster! Sounds like something I would do. Looks like you have made a full recovery.

I know I'm one of the dumber runners on this site, but I generally enjoy any reason to go fast.

Good to see that you had a good run! Run hard on Sat!

From RAD on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 14:45:20 from 76.27.12.70

Good luck on the race. I think you're doing smart runs this week, and the pace pick up can't be too bad. I think it's always hard to really 'taper' before a race!

It was windy yesterday and I got home to check my widget and it said it was 15 mph winds...and i'm like man it felt like it was a lot harder! Weird...any who sounds like you are back to normal!

NICE JOB!!! What race is this Saturday? I am behind the times.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 17:26:44 from 198.241.217.15

Kelli, it's the Georgetown to Idaho Springs Half Marathon. I did this race last year and it was the longest I had ever run at that point. I was just recovering from some minor surgery that had put me out of commission for about 3 weeks when I ran it. Now I'm just coming back from three weeks more or less off due to the pioneer trek and then a strained calf. July just seems not to be my month for training.

From jun on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 17:28:25 from 66.239.250.209

I'm predicting a PR.

From Kelli on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 17:31:57 from 71.219.100.174

Same here! I do not like JULY! Good luck Saturday!

I may be bonkers(and y'all know I am), but it seems to me that most of us runners need 6-8 weeks of down time after a tough training cycle, or our body gets all ticked off and injured and makes us take some down time ;) I don't mean no running, just some way to let our bodies heal and recover and rejuvenate ;) Just a theory ;)

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 17:35:55 from 198.241.217.15

I'm pretty sure I can beat my time from the 2008 Georgetown Half, but beating my Canyonlands (Moab) time is another story. We'll see. I just did a stupid and went for a barefoot walk with my coworker. The pavement was hot. Now I have a lovely red spot/blister on the bottom of my right foot and it does not feel good! At least I've got a few days until the race for it to heal.

From JD on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 18:10:32 from 166.183.243.41

I got a blister from doing the same thing a few weeks ago. It was gone in a day or two. A non issue.

If you get a PR Saturday, it will give me something to shoot for in my next half!

From auntieem on Tue, Aug 04, 2009 at 18:17:40 from 67.182.145.8

Carolyn, the way you have been running, you'll probably be able to demolish that 1:49 time. I'm looking forward to hearing about it. I suspect that the "rest" the last few weeks have done you some good!

From april27 on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 22:39:48 from 99.188.251.180

Marion I agree with that 6-8 weeks theory..atleast that is how long I took last year...probably longer.

Good luck Carolyn!

I read somewhere, take a cut-back/easy week each month, an easy/cut-back month every year, and an easy/cut-back year every few or so years.

From Kelli on Thu, Aug 06, 2009 at 13:17:56 from 71.219.94.65

I am in for the cut back YEAR!!!!
