Easy run. Average pace: 9:07.

I originally hadn't planned to do a 10 mile run this week before Saturday, but I decided to do it to test out the ST3s on that distance. The shoes did great. I had a little discomfort from the blister that I got on the bottom of my right foot from walking barefoot on the hot pavement yesterday. (Doh!) But I wore my most cushy smart wool socks and the shoes are like buttah, so I was pretty good.

I ran by feel and didn't look at my watch much at all, though I was aware of my splits. I changed up my normal 10-mile route a bit and ended up going a little bit longer as a result. I also ran a good portion of it on the other side of the road than I normally do, mostly to stay on the shadier side of the street. Splits were 9:58, 9:23, 9:28, 9:13, 9:14, 8:51, 8:47, 8:44, 8:47, 8:52, 8:58 (last 0.40).

My calf is feeling fine, but I'm going for one more session of poking and prodding this evening anyway. I'll have him work on my hamstrings, which continue to be tight. I should stretch them more.

You're so smart with your training! Good luck with the poking and prodding.

Your splits today look great!

Um, look at your splits? You were really fast this morning and you had a negative split your second half of the run. You will kill it this weekend.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Aug 05, 2009 at 11:25:20 from 24.8.167.243

The negative split is a little deceiving. The first half has a net elevation increase (710 up, 525 down, net 185 up), while the second half has a net elevation decrease (499 up, 654 down, net 155 decrease).

You're being modest. Your new nickname is "Speedy C".

Glad you like the shoes!

Nice run! I read the explanation on the splits, but I still think it's impressive. You'll do great this Saturday!! Can't wait to read the report, have fun tapering :)

That's great the new shoes feel like buttah. Sometimes a new pair of shoes can leave one feeling a little verklempt.

JD, The Prince of Tides is about neither princes, nor tides. Discuss.

I was just thinking about you and wondered, do you have a stick? It has helped me tremendousl the to keep away the tight hammies and sore calves...

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, Aug 06, 2009 at 10:23:09 from 24.8.167.243

Yes, I have a stick. I don't use it as much as I should.

From Mark on Thu, Aug 06, 2009 at 10:35:24 from 24.129.132.74

Wow great run! I would never be able to tell that you had just been injured. Those elevation changes must be part of your "secret" to being such a strong runner (well, that and all of the consistent and smart training).
