Easy run + level 3 shred.

5:16 am, 28°F, 46% humidity, wind 4 SSE, waning crescent moon.

It was chillier than I expected it to be this morning. I was dressed okay, but my face got kind of cold because I didn't wear my face cover. I usually wear that only if it's below 20 degrees.

I normally do hill sprints on Mondays, but I skipped them today because I needed to get home to the bathroom. I thought about going back out to do them, but I ended up having to deal with kids. I got home at 6:40 and I asked my 18-year-old son, who was still in bed, what time he needed to be to school, because he doesn't have a regular school day today. He's got an honor orchestra thing all day. He said that he had to be there at 6:45. It would have been nice if he would have told me that last night. So he hurried and got ready and I drove him and his bass to school. I got him there about 7:05, but the bus that's taking the kids downtown was still there. He says that in the 3 years he's done this honor orchestra, they've never left the school on time. We've got to go downtown tonight for the honor orchestra concert and to bring the boy and his bass home. I dislike driving downtown and would rather take the light rail, but we'll have to drive so that we can bring the bass home.

I ran the County Line Road loop. The hills didn't feel too bad, but I wasn't going terrifically fast either. My fastest mile was the last mile because of my aforementioned need to get home.

Your needs bring up an interesting thought that has bothered me the last couple of times I've been running. Twice last week and this morning I faced subtle tummy issues while I was out running in the morning. I thought it was because of the food I had eaten the night before, but now I am wondering if it actually has something to do with the air quality in SLC. I swear this morning there were a couple of times I was actually chewing on the air. I could taste it in my mouth. Gross.

I am ever-impressed with your ability to balance running with real life. It's definitely an encouragement to me for when I have to actually go out and face the real world.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 10:45:02 from 24.8.167.243

Well, Nevels, it's been a little easier for me lately since I've had a car pool arrangement with a neighbor for the 6:30 drive to seminary for my 15-year-old son and the neighbor's girls. But my son wants to quit that arrangement because he's always late to seminary when the neighbor drives. I'll have another challenge to my running schedule if we quit the carpool.

Jun, it seems like your air is worse this winter than last winter. Does that sound right to you? My issues aren't because of air quality. My trouble is my getting up and going out running before my body is quite ready for the day.

Oh yes, I fully agree that it is worse this year than last. With population increases and more cars on the road it will just continue to get worse year after year. It is truly sad.

The need to go to the bathroom during a run has been striking me as of late, too. I hate that feeling. I wouldn't have gone out to do hill sprints either! It's hard enough getting out in the cold as is!

Good run! When do you begin your training in for June's marathon in earnest?

From Michelle on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 12:47:47 from 63.227.3.181

I was colder than expected this morning as well. My pants weren't warm pants and my thighs were freezing at the end of the run. Good job getting out early Monday morning. I hope you get the seminary carpool worked out. Are your neighbors ready on time when you pick them up, or do they make you late then also?

From auntieem on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 13:06:17 from 24.17.177.218

Funny how needing to get to the bathroom can speed us up! I find that in order to avoid bathroom breaks, I really need to be out of bed about 1 1/2 hours before I am scheduled to run. So sometimes this means 4 or 4:30!

Have fun at the concert tonight! I am picturing you trying to bring boy and bass home on the train. LOL.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 13:10:06 from 198.241.174.15

Tracy, I start my official marathon training on February 1.

Michelle, when I drive I usually have to wait a few minutes in front of their house and I haven't been exactly early lately and so the kids are a little late on those days. Caleb said this morning that he was late before they even got to our house to pick him up.

Auntieem, I have thought about taking the bass on the train, and I'm tempted, but I think the boy would complain. This is the 2nd of 3 honor orchestras he's in this year, so after tonight it will be 2 down, 1 to go. But the one that remains is out-of-town. So was the first one. This is the only one that is held in Denver.

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 14:13:31 from 24.199.205.252

Great job hustling back on that last mile and making it home. That issue is one that I'm not sure how to tackle.

Maybe I'll put in a letter to Ask Miles in the Runner's world magazine. :-)

The train and the bass sound like an adventure, but if it costs you too many points with your thing #1, I'd probably just drive. A bitter child is never fun.

Hope you get your seminary carpool straight. Habitually late folks sometimes don't see how their tardiness affects others.

Great run despite all the 'issues' creeping up on you :)

Good luck with the drive and orchestra tonight, remind me to never let my children choose the bass as their instrument of choice! :)

Wow - your mileage is awesome! What a good mom you are for hauling son and stuff all over the city!

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 15:47:34 from 24.199.205.252

RAD- I think you should encourage your kids to play the drums.

From april27 on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 20:20:01 from 99.188.251.180

Just reading your post made me exhausted! I hope you don't have to help him carry the bass!

From Mark on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 22:14:12 from 173.168.88.68

Nice run! and back into time to keep the family moving along.

I can't believe we had the same temperature this morning, that's crazy.
