Easy run with 3 hill sprints at the end. Average pace - 11:04

Hill sprints:

1 - 10.73 seconds @ 7:04/mile

2 - 10.86 seconds @ 7:04/mile

3 - 11.10 seconds @ 7:34/mile

I ran slowly today. I don't know if it was because I was tired or if it was because it was cold (34 degrees) or if it was because I was trying to listen to General Conference on my mp3 player.

I did the shred level 2 before my run.

This week is supposed to be a step back week, or whatever you call it. I'm going to do pretty much the same during the week that I did last week, but I'll do a shorter run on Saturday.

Here's a weird thing. My husband's community orchestra and my oldest son's youth orchestra played a side-by-side concert at a local high school last night. About a half hour after the concert ended and we left, someone drove through the front door of the high school and down the hall. The school is now closed until they can repair the damage. We're waiting to find out if it was someone connected to the concert who did it. I hope not.

34-Br! How did you like the hill sprints? I haven't tried them yet, but I'm almost through the book. Your pace on those is remarkable! I would have thought they'd be slower due to the uphill. Any tips?

That's just horrible about the car incident. There is a tragic story behind that I'm sure. I'm so sorry. But nice about the concert.

I seriously considered skipping the hill sprints today because I was so tired. But I did them anyway at a slightly slower pace than I've done them in the past.

The hill I'm doing them on is at the very end of my run, very near my house. It's a longer hill than I want to sprint up, so I sprint about half way up it. If anyone every cleans up the broken cup that I'm using as my marker, I'm going to be in trouble.

I don't think the hill sprints are really that hard, at least not the way I'm doing them. I have to push myself to go 7:00 pace or faster up hill, but it's only for about 10 seconds, and then I turn around and jog slowly back down the hill and do it again. After the third time, I jog slowly up the rest of the hill, and that's kind of hard. But I don't feel unduly fatigued the next day after doing just 3 short hill sprints.

Thanks for the description. Hudson did mention that they don't take much out of you to do. I'm looking forward to adding them in.

Wow, that is just bizarre about the car in the high school. Luckily it was AFTER the concert. Wow.

Man, my stupid knee is still hurting every time I go downstairs and you're already up and running 6 a week. I'm so impressed! :)

From Carolyn on Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 18:53:53

I'm concerned about your knee, Laura. I really hope it gets better.

Also, is it true that you always stop eating when you're full (or something like that)?

Hahaha. Have you been reading my sister's blog? ... We all have our vices. Food, in general, is not mine. But I have others that are just as damaging and addicting (chocolate, laziness, making excuses, etc.) I might never be as dedicated as you or Lybi are to running/fitness. I just don't have that in me. But I'm working to be better - in the same way that others work to diet (sometimes succeeding, sometimes sliding backwards). We're all striving to be better at our own frailties. Wow, that was quite a soap box! Sorry about that. ;o)

From Carolyn on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 10:43:23

Yes, I did read though Lybi's hot discussion thread.

You're right about us all working on our own frailties. I struggle much more with controlling my diet than with exercising. And of course I have other frailties that I won't go into here.
