In Utah on the Provo River Trail with Sasha and others. This is not the workout I would have done if I had been on my own today. I guess I would call this a tempo run. Average pace: 8:14.

I neglected to turn my Garmin on until we actually started running and it took a quarter of a mile to find satellites, so my mile splits were offset from where they should have been. I don't have the pace for the first 1/4 of a mile accounted for in my average, but it was close to the average, so no big deal.

Sasha wanted to see what I could do, so we started out around 8:15. He and the others were kind enough to stay with me for the whole 8 miles (so I wouldn't get lost) and push me to a faster pace than I'm used to, but I was able to be conversational until the very end when Sasha had me run faster for a half mile. Some of them went out for more miles after I was done.

Splits were 8:20, 7:54, 8:03, 8:24, 8:19, 8:25, 8:51, 8:39 (this wasn't a whole mile), a half mile at 6:40, with the last 100 yards all out. (My splits are slightly different from what anyone else who was running would have gotten because of the .25 offset on my laps.)

I got some good advice from Sasha about training pace. I think maybe my biggest weakness right now is the confidence to run faster than I have been. A lesson I learned at the race on Saturday is that I need to have the confidence to line up closer to the front. It took me 2 1/2 minutes to get to the start line on Saturday. And now today I heard from Sasha that he thinks I can run a marathon faster than I thought that I could.

Good run! I have to be having a pretty good day to cover 8 miles at an 8:14 pace. Looks like you're recovering well from Saturday's effort.

Sasha should conduct a Summer running camp or something. We could all gain a lot with his coaching!

Nice to have you in town. I'm sure you enjoyed your run. After tracking your work-outs the last several weeks there was no doubt in my mind that you would come out today with a strong outing, even after your race on Saturday. Nice work!

I can not believe that you could pull that off today! Well, I CAN believe it, but I am super impressed! I could not have done 8 miles today if I was walking them!!! GREAT JOB!!! I think he is right, your marathon will be fast. Is it Ogden you are doing?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Mar 23, 2009 at 15:24:55 from 198.241.217.15

Yes, it's Ogden.

I would have done 8 miles today, but not at that pace, if I had been on my own. I'll probably be hating it tomorrow. I'm going to meet up with them again tomorrow, but they've got some kind of speed workout planned, so maybe they'll let me just run slow and easy.

What are you in town for???

You are amazing! 3 was enough miles for me. Have a great workout with them tomorrow and maybe we can MEET at Ogden. What time do you think you are going to shoot for? I really have no clue at this point, sometimes I run better without a goal in mind!

My kids are on spring break this week, so we are staying in Orem with my inlaws. I'll be in Kaysville on Wednesday and Salt Lake on Thursday. Other than that, I'm in Orem until I drive back to Denver on Saturday.

I hadn't really figured out what to shoot for at Ogden yet, but I was thinking that in my wildest dreams I could maybe BQ with 3:50 (I'll be 40.) But Sasha seems to think I've got 3:40 in me, so I don't know.

It would be great to meet at Ogden. We'll have to set something up so that we don't totally miss each other like we did in Moab.

Are you kidding me????? You look like you are 25! Wow, I never would have guessed.

I am sorry you are getting snow for Spring Break, that stinks! But Colorado is probably not faring much better with this weather!

I have to say that you ran Moab so smart and did so well, I can easily see a 3:40 in your future. Baby steps, though, right?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Mar 23, 2009 at 16:22:31 from 198.241.217.15

It's trying to snow here in Orem, but it's not doing much.

I'm hesitant to put too many eggs in the BQ basket right now, since this will be my first marathon. I'll have to see how serious I am about it come May 16.
