Progression Run. 3 miles easy, 6 miles accelerating from MP + 20 sec./mile to MP. I added a half mile cool-down at the end because I still had that far to go to get home.

Weather: 52°F, 30% humidity, wind 12 mph SW.

I got up a little earlier this morning than I have in a while. I started the run at 5:38 am and it was still dark, but got light not too much later.

I was feeling a little sluggish today and struggled on the uphills (of which there were plenty) a little more than I would have liked. Perhaps it was because of the wind. It was noticeably harder when I was going into the wind. Splits were 10:24, 10:04, 9:49, 9:00, 8:50, 8:48, 8:35, 8:31, 8:14, with the last half mile at 9:01.

I'm in talent show mode the next few days. We're all going to the talent show at the high school tonight where Thing 1 is playing the string bass. He's playing a piece that my husband wrote called "The Ill-Tempered Bass." Then tomorrow I'm going over to the elementary school twice during the day - in the morning for the lower grades' talent show where Thing 4 is playing the piano, and in the afternoon for the upper grades' talent show where Thing 3 is playing the cello. Thing 2 does not play a musical instrument. His talents lie elsewhere.

"The Ill Tempered Bass" -- hahahahaha!!!! No basses, or claviers, ill tempered or otherwise for us, but DD does have Homeschoolers Science Fair today. She made 2 projects: Prehistoric Horses, and Backyard Botany.

Your workout was awesome! Nice "bank deposit!"

Very solid progression run! The wind/hills adversity makes even better!

I knew you'd get the allusion, Sno.

Thanks to both of you. I ran the home-work loop, so I had a lot of uphills on the second half, but more headwinds during the first half, so I guess the hills and the wind kind of balanced each other out.

Nice run today!!

I think it's great to have such a talented family. Have fun at all your talent shows.

Do you play an insturment?

I played saxaphone in jr. and high school, but I don't think I could do it now. Youngest daughter plays the flute.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Thu, Apr 23, 2009 at 12:41:00 from 198.241.217.15

I played the flute throughout school and was pretty serious, took private lessons from a professional, played in competitions, etc. But I stopped playing much after high school because I was at a point that I'd really have to be dedicated to it to improve and that wasn't the direction I wanted to go. I still play in church every once in a while.

I also played the saxophone in the jazz band in high school. I played bari sax one year and alto sax one year. I don't have a saxophone anymore. I was never a very good sax player. I just did it for fun.

My husband is a string bass player and a composer and has a doctorate in music.

Wow that is fantastic... I bet your house is always filled with music. I would love that! My mother played the piano, mostly in church nothing serious. But growing up she would love to play just for her own pleasure. Many times that was the alarm clock in the morning, to get us up for school.

You have a talented bunch of things running around!

Your run today was awesome. Your splits were perfect for your goal---how on earth did you do that?

You are going to do so great in Ogden!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Apr 24, 2009 at 13:13:08 from 71.229.164.25

Kelli, I was really wondering going to accelerate over 6 miles, but I just started relatively slowly and tried to run just a little bit faster each mile. I was surprised that it worked out.

We need to try to meet up at Ogden somehow.

You're so speedy, I'm sure you'll do great at Ogden.
