Oh how I hate to get up in the morning. However, I'm glad I live in Colorado instead of Utah (sorry Utahns) since I'm a morning runner, because the sun rises earlier in Colorado than in Utah (also sets earlier, but that's another story). I could see some lighter sky on the eastern horizon by the time I finished my run just past 6:30 this morning, but I know from my experience last week that it is still pitch black in Utah at 6:30 in the morning right now.

I ran the the County Line loop and I started out pretty slowly, but then hurried up, particularly in the 6th and 7th miles because I was anxious to get to the rec center for a pit stop. Then I ran a little slower after that. I've got to reprogram my body to get up and function early in the morning after my 2 weeks of slothfulness.

I consider today the beginning of the new year for myself. I was still on vacation up through yesterday. Now it's back to the grind stone. I've got the kids all off to school, and I've still got to shower and get ready, run a couple of errands and get to work. I'm running a little late this morning because I had to stop after the first circuit in the shred and drive Thing 1 and his string bass to school this morning. I finished the shred when I got back. Maybe life will be easier next year when Thing 1 is gone off to college. Thing 2 doesn't play an instrument.

Once again, you have gotten more done before 8am than I will accomplish all day. Great job this morning.

Thanks, jun, but I don't think that's true. I'm sure you'll accomplish much more today than I managed before 8 am.

I had a really hard time getting out of bed this morning too. Got to shake off that vacation feeling!

Nice miles :) Yep we are still in the dark for quite a bit longer then you it looks like. Maybe that is why I have usually ran after work? I think we all have a bit of vacation feeling that we are trying to shake.... man it's not easy getting back to real life.

Nice long run for Monday morning after vacation! This morning I was thinking how nice it is in the summer when I run at 6:00 and it is already light. At least every day is a little lighter then the last now.

Nice run as always Carolyn! The 'first' of the year is always a good time to get back at it. Hope the first week goes quickly and painlessly!!

Nice job today. It was nice to get back to normal schedules and have the holidays over!

Kelli, my dream is to be as fast as YOU!

From april27 on Mon, Jan 04, 2010 at 20:25:05 from 99.188.251.180

I didn't know that about the sun. It was pitch black here at 6:30 too...stupid ice cold midwest!

From Kelli on Mon, Jan 04, 2010 at 22:48:51 from 71.219.96.112

I rolled out of bed today at 7:30 and it was just barely getting light. I woke my kids up for school and my 9 year old said, "I knew I hated New Years. It is darker now when we have to get up!" Silly kid does not realize his mom has been letting him sleep in until 10 for the last 2 weeks.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Jan 04, 2010 at 23:17:32 from 24.8.167.243

April, it's because Colorado and Utah are in the same time zone, but Colorado is east of Utah and the sun rises in the east, so it gets light in Colorado first. Plus, the bigger cities in Utah have tall mountains to the immediate east, which cast a shadow over the city in the morning, thus increasing the lateness of the sunrise.

From auntieem on Mon, Jan 04, 2010 at 23:42:01 from 24.17.177.218

I would not have thought sunrise to be so different. Great first run of YOUR new year, Carolyn!
