Easy run. Average pace: 9:09.

Weather @ 6:50 am: 68° F, 37% humidity, wind 2-4 SSW.

I had to go to Runner's Roost to pick up my bib and timing chip for the Georgetown Half last Saturday. While I was there, I bought some Brooks ST3s! They were on sale! Yippee!! I have to say, when I put them on, they felt like buttah. OK. Now I'm wondering why are training shoes and racing flats different? Why don't people train in the same shoes they race in? I'm assuming that people who get racing flats for racing train in them some of the time. I'm just wondering what the whole rationale behind there being these different kinds of shoes is.

Incidentally, I had no calf pain today. I felt pretty good, Splits were 9:25, 9:23, 9:29, 8:56, 9:05, 8:42.

Last evening we had one banana left. My 14-year-old son loves bananas and eats them all the time, so I asked him to leave that one banana so that I could have it after my run today. When I finished my run this morning and went to get the banana, I found a note on it that said this:  "Sorry, Mom! I took a bite of the banana, then remembered that you wanted it. I hope it doesn't rot overnight." I just cut the end off of the banana and it was fine.

lol!!! Glad your son remembered before it was ALL gone :)

Nice run and YEA for no pain! great paces for an easy run...did you run in the new shoes? I'm assuming from the buttah feeling :)

my 2 cents on the shoes. I don't use racing flats, but from what I understand people do 'break them in' a little, but they're only good for like 1 marathon or 2 -1/2's. They are just lighter and make it 'easier' to run with less weight. I don't completely understand it either. I guess I just don't run fast enough to win money to be able to afford all the extra shoes :)

YAHHHH for no pain in your calf!! That was cute of your son to leave you a note. I have no idea about the shoe thing.

Nice job on the shoes! Can't wait to hear your report on them, but I have no idea about why how or when to use different shoes.

And, hooray for no shin pain. You were smart in your response to that thing, and it paid off. When is your 1/2?

I wore the ST3s this morning and they felt great.

The 1/2 is this coming Saturday. I'm debating whether to wear the new shoes in the race. I'll have to see how the rest of the week goes. These shoes don't seem to need breaking in like other shoes do because the upper is so unrestrictive.

Since you read Born To Run, you can probably guess what "rationale" I would attribute to the shoe question. Cha, ching.

Have you got a longer run you can wear the ST3s on this week? Nine or ten miles? Also maybe some speed miles?

A repentant banana thief is better than an unrepentant one. :)

Maybe what you need is a banana tree in the back yard...

Nice run today. I think Sno is right, see how a little longer run goes in those new puppies.

I love Brooks running shoes. They are fantastic. I'm sure whichever shoe you wear this weekend will be fine. Fritz buys a new pair of shoes the day before every marathon, or at least that is what I read on his blog. He runs in brand new shoes without breaking them in.

I had to laugh when I read your blog about the banana. I'm glad he at least left a note and part of the banana.
