Easy run. Average pace: 9:32.

5:05 am, 58°F, 41% humidity, wind 4 SSE.

The 6-mile easy run makes a frequent appearance in my training these days. I've decided to turn it into 1-hour easy instead, which takes me just a little past 6 miles. I have two standard 6-mile routes. I ran the slightly hillier one this morning. I don't run this route as often as my other 6-mile route. Splits were 9:49, 9:56, 9:39, 9:25, 9:16, 9:13.

I've been thinking about whether I should make my son walk to seminary in the morning. I've thought of a couple of other benefits to my running early enough to take him to seminary. The biggest one is that I am home when my other two boys are getting ready and leaving for school (they go about a half hour after I get back from the seminary drop-off). I'm not home when they get home from school, so it's nice for me to be here in the morning for them. The other benefit is that I'm getting to work on time, which I wasn't doing when I was running later. So I think I'll stick with running at about 5:00 am and driving him to seminary. That works as long as my run is no longer than 8 miles. On the occasions when I have a longer run, which will happen sometimes, he'll have to walk. I told him that this morning and he wasn't too happy.

I'm jealous. I admire your discipline. This week I've gotten up with my early alarm, but put off the run until later in the morning. Just struggling with early mornings this week for some reason.

Sounds like you do a good job balancing family, work, and running, and everything else life throws at you.

Great job MOM. I appreciate your commitment to running and your family. That is great.

Just curious, when you say you are starting your run at 5am, are you getting up at 5 or walking out the door at 5? When I do early runs I get up about 15 minutes before leaving the house (2 minutes to dress, a couple minutes to drink some water, and about 5 minutes of stretching). I'm just curious.

As always you are doing great!! I, like JD have been struggling with the early morning thing. Sorry that you son was not too happy. But I'm sure it won't be as bad as he thinks.

I'm getting out of bed at about 4:40 or 4:45 and making it out the door at 5:00.

I'm sure your son will survive! Then when he's a grownup he can tell his kids how he walked 20 miles to and from school, uphill both ways.

in a foot of snow! LOL

No reason you cannot mix it up a bit. I know it's great to have a solid, consistent routine, but you could change according to a hard/easy day schedule and have your son walk on some days, not on others. Just a suggestion.

April- we actually SAW snow today! We are in the middle of another little heat wave, but someone brought enough snow to the park to make a little bike jump. I couldn't believe it! There is always some in the mountains; maybe they hauled it down?

Yeah, make him walk. At least some of the time. It is really a gift you are giving him; allowing him some time to move his body and enjoy the out of doors before being confined all day. It will be a great start to his day. I'm not really kidding, but my kids think I'm crazy too.

I'm not sure what to make of this. The men think I'm a nice mom and the women think I should make him walk.

From JD on Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 14:40:29 from 64.65.159.206

That is interesting. You'd think it would be the opposite. Maybe the guys are just siding with your kid because he's male, and we men stick up for each other. Lol!!

Or maybe runner women are tougher than runner men.

Or maybe Auntieem has a cat named Jesus! LOL!!!!!!!

Don't forget - I wanted you to do a little of each! lol

Duly noted, Sno.

Levon called his child Jesus because he liked the name.

I think I"m just jaded b/c my brother and I had to walk to elementary school and take the public transportation bus for highschool. It had to be REALLY cold for my dad to drive us to school. And usually he made us walk tto the bus stop and then he would pick us up at the bus stop. Maybe he saw us on the way to work and felt bad. LOL

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 17:04:15 from 198.241.174.15

He also sent him to the finest school in town. I wonder if he gave him a ride. Maybe not, because Levon likes his money.

From JD on Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 17:33:34 from 209.183.51.133

Yes, well, he makes a lot they say. Spends his days counting in garage by the motorway. Which is where his cars sit while his boy walks to school.
