Easy run. Average pace: 9:34.

I intended to run 10 miles today, but I developed a significant pain in my right calf, so I did something I've never done before. I stopped running and called my husband and asked him to come get me. After I called him, I walked towards home until he reached me.

When I got home, my daughter made me an ice pack and brought me some stuffed animals to comfort me.

I hope this pain is gone by tomorrow.

Stuffed animals work for me every time!

Wise move stopping the run like that. Hope the pain goes away by tomorrow.

Sudden pain always warrants caution ;) Good move. Have you ever pulled your calf muscle before?

Definitely the right decision. Getting hurt is not fun, so being proactive is the best thing you can do right now.

Marion, remember when my calves were tight after the Ogden marathon and you massaged them for me? That was the first time I had any issue with my calves. Other than that, I had a little soreness in the right calf a month or so ago when I was about a week into my transition to a mid-foot strike. Then it went away. What I had today is kind of like that but worse. I'm not too worried about it. I think it will be fine with a little rest, some ice, and some massaging.

Be very kind to your calf. Mine have always given me PLENTY of warning before they rupture :( I am a toe runner and am therefore, more prone to calf issues. Up hills cause more of an issue than does down hill. Flat is the best. Orthotics have totally alleviated my issues :) Are you familiar with down dog? Pedaling the feet while in down dog can really help. :) I also stand with my toes on the door step and give my calves a good stretch before I come in after a run :)

bummer about your calf Carolyn, it sounds like Marion has some exprience with this ... stretching both before and after you run is certainly warranted (and doesn't really take much time).

Good luck!

Oh, sorry about your calf! Take care with it; I'm sure that it will be OK. It must have been pretty bad for you to stop running.

Wise choice to call it a day early. It can be so risky to run through the pain. Hope you are back running soon.
