Easy run. Average pace: 9:39.

5:30 am, 69° , 41% humidity, wind 2 SSW, overcast.

I must have hit my snooze alarm twice this morning before I was conscious of it. When I became conscious, my husband was in the bathroom, so I stayed in bed until he came out. At that point, I used one of Snoqualmie's phrases, "just sit up," and it worked. Now if I can just reach consciousness when my alarm first goes off.

6 miles is my typical distance for an easy run and it's been taking me just under an hour. I decided to add a little extra distance today and run for the full hour.

I went to back-to-school night at the elementary last night and it's a good thing. Before that, the fact that there is no school at the elementary today or on Monday had not permeated my brain. They're doing assessments, so each kid has one half-hour appointment sometime on one of those two days. If I hadn't gone to back-to-school night last night I would have showed up at the bus stop with my daughter this morning and wondered where everyone was. As it is, it's fortunate that I brought my computer home last night because now I have to work from home today and Monday because there's no one else in the family who can stay home with my daughter. I guess I need to pay more attention to what is going on at the schools.

I need to get back in the routine of getting up early, so I'll take a page from Snoqualmie's book too. That's a good idea.

The assessment process for your elementary school sounds interesting, but probably annoying for parents. Is this to decide reading levels and math levels and all of that stuff?

Yes, I think that's what the assessments are for. I think it's also to get the parents' attention for a little while. You take the kid to the classroom and they spend a half hour with the teacher. My daughter's teacher said last night that they would test reading and writing and a little math. (She's in 2nd grade.) While your kid is doing his or her assessment, you're supposed to go around to these different stations and fill out forms and sign up for stuff, and you're also supposed to get your kid's school picture taken while you're there.

That seems...inefficient. Why didn't they assess at the end of the year? Why don't they have a registration day for you to fill out all that stuff? The only thing I can think is that the school must be small?

I have no idea. They used to do something called goal setting conferences at the beginning of the school year, and now they do this instead.

On boy.., let the fun begin LOL. Don't feel bad Carolyn, I feel like I'm always one step behind when it comes to knowing what going on with my kids at school. Maybe I'm just a step behind always LOL Sounds like your schedule is starting to get fun :)

You are making me realize that the start of school is only a few weeks away for us. I think Bellingham schools start the week after Labor Day weekend. Its going to seem weird to me to just have one kid. Kid 1 goes to college September 19.

So do you have two kids, auntieem? One going off to college and one still at home?

From JD on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 15:36:32 from 64.65.159.206

School can't start up yet. Summer isn't over. Quit talking about it.

Nice run.

Come on, JD. It's not my fault that school started.

From auntieem on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 19:32:11 from 67.182.145.8

Yes, two kids. My daughter is a Junior this year, I am gonna miss my boy crazily, I'm afraid.
