I think I ran too hard last week. I'm still tired. I had a hard time getting out of bed and getting out the door this morning. I thought about cutting this run short, but instead I did the full distance but at an easier pace than when I did a very similar workout last week. I did a better job of hitting the correct pace on the intervals this time. I was aiming for around 7:00 pace on the fast intervals. I did 2 miles at 10:08 pace to start and then I did this:

I've got a two/day scheduled for Wednesday this week. I'll run to work and run home. I've done that once or twice before, but now I'm going to start doing it as a more regular thing, once or twice a week. I've got to remember to take an extra change of clothes to work tomorrow.

That's alot of miles for to run when you still feel tired. Way to go!! I don't think I will be getting as many miles in this week, I have been tired also. When is your trail marathon? You are doing some really good training, I'm sure you will be ready.

Good start to your week!

Half the battle of running twice a day is the logistics of where and when, and packing the right items at the right time and getting them to the right place...right?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 11:38:37 from 71.229.164.25

The trail marathon is on Labor Day. I feel kind of funny calling it a trail marathon, because I don't think it's a trail like the trails other people, such as jun, have been running. I think it's more like just a dirt road. Of course, I haven't seen it, so I'm making assumptions.

JD, yes, the logistics of running twice a day is certainly a battle, especially since I've got to be relatively presentable for work in between the two runs. Two different runs from home wouldn't be nearly as much as a hassle.

Can you program garmin to track your paces like that? I mean for the 30 seconds and then for the rest of themile? I think that is a cool idea.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 14:28:13 from 198.241.217.15

April, I programmed it this way using the workout page in Training Center:

Step 1: Go 2 miles.

Step 2: Repeat 8 times:

Step 2a: Go for 30 seconds.

Step 2b: Go until I hit the lap button.

That's it. So the Garmin recorded a lap at the end of the 2nd mile and that's when I started my first fast 30 seconds. It then beeped and recorded a lap when the 30 seconds was done and I slowed down. Then after that I had to watch for when the total distance got to another whole mile and then I would hit the lap button which would record a lap and start the 30 seconds fast and the watch would record a lap and beep for the end of the 30 seconds.

Does that make sense?

Sounds like a fun workout! I like that spread between the intervals and the rest of the mile. Terrific workout. What is this trail marathon on Labor Day? I love trails, and only run pavement to keep in shape for pavement races.

It's the American Discovery Trail Marathon and it's here in Colorado. It goes from Palmer Lake/Monument to Colorado Springs. Here's the website:

I don't know where you are, but do you want to come to Colorado and run it with me?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 17:41:17 from 198.241.217.15

I should mention that there's also a half marathon, in case you're interested in the trail but not in the full marathon.

Holy Cow! Great paces, great miles and great job just getting out when you were tired!!! Someday I might catch your fever for running alone. I'm so much better when someone is there to be accountable to. That's 1/2 my love of the blog!!!
