Long run. Average pace 9:26.

Weather: 67° F, 62% humidity, wind 10 SSE.

Another Saturday morning slogging it out on the Highline Canal Trail. My original plan was to go north from the rec center (where I parked) 6 miles and then back and then south 2.5 and then back. Sometimes it's mentally easier if I break up a long run like that. But I was afraid I might be tempted to stop after 12 miles if I did that, so then I thought I would go north 7 miles and back, and then south 1.5 miles and back. But then I might stop after 14. So I finally decided just to go north 8.5 miles and then I had no choice but to finish the 17 miles. I won't bore you with my splits. The first two miles were the slowest and then I was pretty consistently between 9:20 and 9:30 after that, but I managed to do the last .13 at the end at 7:31 pace.

I'm ready for an easy week at sea level next week. It might be hard getting very many miles in on the ship. I'll be online today and tomorrow to check on all the racing people and others, but then I'll be completely offline for a whole week.

Have a great cruise Carolyn!! You will come back so ready to rumble. You will be missed, but we will be happy that you are having a well-deserved break!

Great mileage this week!

I usually go out and back on long runs, then I have no choice but to go the distance.

Nice pile o miles! I think running on the ship will be such a great adventure. And someone else will do all the cooking! Lucky you! Have a great time.

Looks like you need to update your Goals sister! You've smashed all the old ones. Make some that will stretch you out :)

Sounds like it's cruise time. Where you guys headed?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 18:20:35 from 71.229.164.25

Yes, Sno. The best thing about the cruise to me is that I don't have to think up what to cook and I don't have to cook! Yipee!

I talked to someone at work who has run on a cruise ship and he said it was weird because one of the straight-aways you have the wind behind you and the other one you're going straight into a heavy wind.

We're going to the Western Caribbean with stops in Key West, Cozumel, and Belize.

Yes, I need to update my goals. Any suggestions?

Something Sean said to us at a club run - be sure to switch directions every so often.

You are going to have so much fun!

Have SO much fun!!! Remember that the garmin actually tells you your pace with respect to the satellite... and the ship is moving :) My brother was so impressed by his running speed on the ship :)

From auntieem on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 18:50:23 from 67.182.145.8

Nice long run! Have a fun time on the ship running; is there a treadmill?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 20:21:29 from 71.229.164.25

Yes, Marion, it has occurred to me that the Garmin will be incorrect because of the movement of the ship. I'll just have to find out the distance of a lap on the track and then count laps, I guess.

Yes, auntieem, there are treadmills but I haven't run on a treadmill in ages. I'm afraid I'll injure myself if I do much treadmill running. I might do some of my running on the treadmill and some on the track.

From RAD on Sat, Jun 20, 2009 at 20:54:24 from 67.166.99.8

Carolyn, I went on a cruise in March and did the same thing. I did however do a little TM work. I tried to get at least 7 in 4X/week. If you run enough on the TM or outside you'll attract other runners and get some fun people to run with and hang out with!!! And YES do make sure you switch directions on the outside track, it's too small and you can hurt yourself (or so I've heard) going one way and putting all the pressure on one side.

Have a great time!! You do have to enjoy it and not run ALL the time :) Great run today...you got some CRAZY miles in!!

It is so funny how we have to play mind games with ourselves! Great run and have a great time on our cruise!

Carolyn, have a great time in your cruise!! I will miss hearing from you, but I can't wait to hear about your trip. Most of all relax :)
