Easy run + 8 x 10 sec. hill sprints. Average pace: 9:43.

Weather: 44°F, 76% humidity, wind 8 E.

I tried out some different warm-weather running clothes again today. I'm trying out every outfit that I have over the next few days in order to decide what I want to wear during the marathon. I'm so used to dressing in warmer clothes, that I'm not very well acquainted with these clothes.

I did my standard 4 mile loop today, but with some hill sprints on the end. I got some pretty good speed on the hill sprints today. My paces on them were 6:51, 6:32, 7:07, 6:44, 6:44, 6:51, 6:52, 6:48. I would spend 10-11 seconds running up the hill and then turn around and walk back down. Each time it took me 32-33 seconds to walk back down, so I was really taking it easy between the hill sprints.

Even though I have not even considered a singlet since last September, I wore one at Eugene and was quite comfortable. You will be warm. Then when you are done, will be cold, so keep that space blanket on you! And ask them to tie it in front for you so you can pick up lots of food.

Also, I learned a really cool tip at Eugene from some women I observed. They took old knee socks and cut the toes off to use as throw-away arm warmers. Isn't that a great idea? If you need a skort, I have tried on almost every one there is and have run in several on my treadmill before sending them back; THE skort is this one: http://www.skirtgoddess.com/products/commitment You might still have time to do a long run in it if you decided you want one.

I'm really happy for you; you're going to have a great time!

8 more days. You are going to do awesome. I think I'm going to drive up and cheer everyone on. Not sure where the best place is, so I'll be doing some research today to figure that out.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 10:53:09 from 71.229.164.25

OK. Stupid question. When people say singlet in terms of running apparel, do they just mean a tank top? I know that wrestling singlets are "pants" and "shirt" together, but that's not what people mean when they talk about running singlets, right?

From Snoqualmie on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 11:01:48 from 67.171.56.164

I meant a tank top.

Regarding diet after your race, plan on extra protein; it really helps.

Nice run today... great pace on the hill sprints! Are you getting excited? I get butterflies in my tummy when I start to think about it.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 11:48:47 from 198.241.217.15

Thanks for answering my stupid question, Sno. I thought that's what you meant. So in the picture of me on my blog would you say that what I'm wearing is a singlet (actually two of them - a turquoise one and a white one).

Yes, Lori, I'm getting excited. I'm a little nervous, but I try not to think about it too much and just focus on the things I have to do before I fly to Utah next Wednesday. I'm looking at the trip to Utah as a vacation.

Jun, that would be great if you could come cheer us on. My mom said she'd like to come to the finish, but she can't drive and may not be able to find someone to bring her. My sister was going to come to the finish, but she's got a conflict. I have a friend in Kaysville who might come to cheer me on. But there's a good chance that none of them will make it. It'll be nice if there's one person there to cheer for me.

Yes, a double singlet! lol

From JD on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 14:20:06 from 64.65.159.206

I don't know when the half-marathoners finish in relation to the marathoners, but I'll be hanging out cheering anyone I know on (in my quiet, no-verbal cheering way).

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 14:31:40 from 198.241.156.7

Well, JD, the marathon and half-marathon both start at 7:00 and the half-marathon course is the second half of the marathon course, so you'll finish a good chunk ahead of me. You'll have to wait at least as long as it takes you to run your race until I show up. But look for me if you're around that long.

From JD on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 14:50:21 from 64.65.159.206

You might beat me to the finish still!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 15:58:24 from 198.241.217.15

There's no way that will happen, James, not with all the miles you've been running. But thanks for saying so.

From april27 on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 16:04:15 from 99.188.251.180

I feel so naked with out pants and a coat and gloves...so weird running in 50's!

From jun on Fri, May 08, 2009 at 16:21:33 from 66.239.250.209

I'm going to try and find a spot around mile 17 or 18 to cheer people on and then quickly head to the finish line to cheer them on again. If I could, I would hop in and run a few miles with people, but I'm pretty sure they'd kick me out.
